Devlog #14 - Audio, Video & Debug
Hey guys, time for a new devlog,
And there 's a lot in this one ! Last weeks, I spent my time between debug, FX and Sounds.
For starters , I design the Droplet mechanic, and I needed props, FX an a little bit of UI. Droplets are pretty much like Pieces of Heart in the Zelda series : when you get one, your Ether Gauge increase by 10, but when you stack 5 droplet, you get a 50 Ether Bonus and your Gauge displays a new Leaf.
This mechanic was coded a will ago, but I needed to take the time to design something pretty in terms of feedback, but also link this value with my Pause Menu. I rework some FX I found on marketplace, designed a mesh with the shape of an heart and animated it. And finally I added a hint for the player that there is 5 droplets hidden in the dungeon.
Next I worked on the Fruit mechanic. I always wanted to restrain the player with an "item I need to save" (because I am s mischievous xD). But also a Physiology mechanic : according to the Temperature and the Wetness of the player, some skills are changed. And on top of that, I still havent figured out what to do with my fairy hummingbird :/
I think that Pikmin Bloom gave me that lightbulb moment, because seeing the pikmin bringing me fruits, it was obvious I needed to wrap all this like that ! So I designed 6 Fruits (with weird names), one for saving the game, one for ether restoring, 4 for physiology changes. The bird brings randomly one of them, throws it to the player (ouch!). Then the player must catch them because they have different physic properties. The Fruits are stack in the bag and the player can consume them in the Pause menu, and the bag is saved with player datas.
Next up was the debug, and there were a lot stackinp up in my list :
- The Auto Cam ( codes I use to correct and smooth camera position) eventually rolled in weird ways
- Some Doors were blocking the player from going backwards
- Player jumps were a pain to use
- Interact with LDelements (like the Crates or the Bulbs) got conflicts
- Some clipping bugs around all the dungeon
I also work with my musician friend to implement the music theme in the game, and add some SFX here and there, like the footstep (that change depending of the surface), or the Doors animation.

This weeks I need to make a build for my Steam Page, choose a price, continue the debug, but also draw these darn icons I need xD
